Having photographed plenty of Sussex weddings over the years, I wanted to share the wisdom from the couples I have photographed, and this blog I wanted to share how these Sussex brides said yes to the dress, and found their dream wedding dress
“After trying on around 12 dresses that I didn’t feel right in, I was beginning to wonder whether I would find my dress. However I tried this one on and it just looked and felt right. I just knew it was the one. It was also comfortable to wear which was important to me.”
“I didn’t do the traditional bridal shopping. The idea of being surrounded by so many dressed and being in a room full of ladies with all different opinions was not my idea of a nice afternoon. I brought my dress off of Facebook. The bride who owned the dressed before had brought it and had changed her mind. I brought it home ensuring to hide it from Silviu. I put it on one evening, once he had gone to work. Once all the accessories were on and I had my bouquet in my hands, I just imagined myself in the town hall walking down the aisle. That’s when I knew it was the one!! And yes, I had already gone through 3 other dresses but don’t tell Silviu!!”
“I didn’t go to a wedding dress shop and do the usual wedding dress try on. I always knew I wanted a pink dress with a vintage twist and someone I follow on Instagram had a dress made in the style I wanted but in blue. I contacted the maker, Emma from Oh Sew Vintage, and asked if she could make the same dress but in pink. When I finally tried the dress on, I knew the risk was worth it, the colour and style were perfect, I felt like a princess.”
“I’m very body conscious and I had tried on a-lot of dresses getting more and more frustrated that nothing looked right on me. Then I tried on ‘the’ dress and I felt like a princess. I was then told that it was the last one in that collection and it was a high street size 14 and myself being a 6-8. I felt like that was the end. The shop emailed me other dresses which where similar, but honestly I wasn’t seeing what they were. So my eldest brother got me the dress and made it my mission to find the best seamstress.”
“I went to Whyte Weddings on recommendation and took my dad and cousin with me as sadly my mum had passed away in March 2021. I tried on four and all were beautiful, but everyone agreed on the Maggie Sottero ‘Giorietta Lynette’ (or number 3 as we know it!).”
“My dress was nothing that I thought I would go for. My mum saw it first and showed me, my reaction was no way! After trying on various other dresses the lady in the shop said that she wanted me to try on one more dress. She went and got it and it was the one my mum saw. As soon as I put it on I fell in love with it. I didn’t purchase it that day as I was going away. Whilst I was away the shop went into administration. On my return I went to the shop, most of the racks were empty but my dress was still there on the hanger so I brought it. It was like it was meant to be.”
“I tried on dresses in two different dress shops in the style I thought I wanted, third time lucky we went to Eva Rose where after trying on more dresses my mum and sister-in-law suggested and wanted me to try on this simple but elegant dress. I looked in the mirror and knew by their reactions and how it made me feel that this was the dress.”
