Baby girl’s first birthday cake smash in Sussex

I had the absolute delight of photographing this gorgeous little girl’s 1st birthday. Imogen took to the camera like she was born for it. Like she’d just toddled out of a Jo Jo Maman catalog. Myself, Mum, Rose and Dad, Russell had a ball as we watched Imogen peeking from behind big blue balloons and snuggling up with her cute fluffy toy rabbit.

My cake smash sessions are held at my studio in Steyning and it was such a wonderful day to spend with this delightful young family. Imogen’s face was a picture as the rainbow cake was presented to her. At first, she approached it gently lifting the rainbow topper off carefully taking small handfuls of icing. This is something I always enjoy with the cake smash sessions, is seeing how differently each child behaves. Some kids dive their fists in, smearing the cake all over the floor and walls. Others, like Imogen sit and eat it delicately. Always makes me chuckle. Mum, Rose was also very happy with the session. She said:

“We had such a fabulous experience being photographed by Darren to celebrate our little lady’s first birthday. He was extremely patient, had a great vision and put all of us at ease. He is an excellent photographer and we couldn’t believe how well all the photos came out. Can’t wait to use him again for future family shoots and would recommend him to anyone!”

I am so pleased that Imogen and her parents had such a wonderful time at the shoot. After the cake smash, I always love to get a few images of the little one with their parents. Rose and Russell were also a delight to photograph. My favourite photo of them as a family is this black & white shot. I love how Rose is looking at Russell with so much love. They’re such a wonderful family and I wish them years of happy moments like this. I look forward to working with them again in the future.
