Springtime in West Sussex brings one of nature’s most magical sights — a sea of bluebells carpeting the forest floor. Here in Littlehampton, we’re lucky to be just a short distance from some of the area’s most beautiful bluebell woodlands. Whether you’re planning a family day out, a quiet walk, or a springtime mini photoshoot, these local spots are well worth a visit.
As a Littlehampton-based photographer, I love discovering places that blend natural beauty with peaceful surroundings — and bluebells make for one of the dreamiest backdrops of the year.

1. Angmering Park Estate
A local favourite just outside of Littlehampton, Angmering Park Estate offers a breathtaking bluebell display in late April and early May. The peaceful woodland trails, dappled light, and historic feel make this my go-to location for Bluebell Mini Sessions. It’s ideal for families with young children or anyone wanting a dreamy spring portrait.
2. Slindon Estate & Nore Hill Folly
Just beyond Arundel lies the beautiful National Trust-managed Slindon Estate. A gentle walk through ancient woodland leads you to Nore Hill Folly — and in spring, the bluebells are in full bloom. It’s a quieter spot that’s perfect for relaxed strolls or capturing candid moments among the flowers.
3. Clapham Wood
Between Littlehampton and Worthing sits Clapham Wood — a stunning ancient woodland full of spring colour. It’s known for its dense carpets of bluebells and peaceful atmosphere. The filtered sunlight and winding paths make it a lovely location for family walks or whimsical woodland photos.
4. Tortington Woods
Just a stone’s throw from Arundel, Tortington Woods is bursting with biodiversity and spring colour. Bluebells thrive here alongside wood anemones and orchids. It’s easy to access and rarely crowded — a perfect spot for a weekend walk or a quiet escape from town.
5. Blunts Wood & Paiges Meadow (Bonus Pick)
A little further afield in Haywards Heath, this expansive nature reserve offers a mix of meadows, ponds, and bluebell woodlands. If you're up for a mini adventure beyond Littlehampton, this is a beautiful destination for nature lovers and photographers alike.

A Quick Reminder
Bluebells are protected in the UK, and even a few stray steps can damage them. When exploring these woods, always stay on the marked paths and help preserve the magic for future springtimes.
Whether you’re looking to plan a fairytale photoshoot or just want to explore some of Sussex’s hidden gems, the bluebell woods around Littlehampton are a true seasonal delight.
